As thWasps Nestse summer season approaches and the temperatures heat up wasp nests are expected to be popping up in all kinds of inconvenient places around our homes and businesses.  Parents are reminded to perform regular inspections of outdoor children’s play structures as kids are often preoccupied with playing and pay little attention to the dangers of a nest which can be right above their heads.  Vibrations from the children playing will quickly disturb the wasps and this often results in the wasps defending their nest and stinging the children.  The play structure pictured below looks very inviting for children… but the nest located inside the peak on the upper level is a cause for concern.

Wasp Nest

Wasp nests are also a concern in bushes and hedges.  Since the nest is not easily visible due to the vegetation.  People can sustain multiple stings as a result of trimming hedges and other lush plants.  The noise generated from the electric or gas powered trimmer will make it difficult to hear any approaching bee or wasp which sees the pruning as a potential threat to their nest.  It is always wise to take precautions prior to trimming or pruning.  Take time to simply watch the work area for wasp activity,  larger nests are very active and should be easy to spot their traffic to and from the nest.  Smaller nests will not have as much traffic and may be more difficult to identify, but it will be worth the look and may save yourself from a painful wasp attack.  If a wasp nest is discovered on your property let the professional exterminators at Cannon Pest Control safely treat and remove the nest.
